Scientists from Israel claim have reversed the aging cell

The study aims to reverse aging of human cells to change the structure of the chromosomes. For this study, a number of 35 people were used, who underwent hyperbaric oxygen therapy in 5 sessions of 90 minutes per week over a period of 3 months. This caused some telomeres in his cells to be extended by up to 20%. Telomeres are structures that cover the ends of chromosomes and whose shortening increases the risk of future mutations, leading to age-related diseases. The results of this research lead to other much broader work, since “longer telomeres are related to better cell performance.

” Explains Professor of the Faculty of Medicine and the Sagol School of Neuroscience of Tel Aviv University to ScienceAlert Shai, Efrati. Efrati explained in a statement that, although the human aging process extends to many other factors, understanding telomere shortening is considered the “holy grail” of aging biology. “In just three months of oxygen hyperbaric therapy, we were able to achieve such a significant lengthening of telomeres, at a rate far greater than any of the currently available interventions or lifestyle modifications. With this pioneering study, we have opened the door to new research on the long-term cellular impact of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in reversing the aging process. ” Said Amir Haddany, study co-author and director of medical research at the Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Research.

These scientists claim that these changes in genetics caused by oxygen therapy, in addition to lengthening telomeres, also have a potentially positive effect on tissue health. Thus, less disease problems as we mentioned before, for example, heart diseases, arthritis and osteoarthritis, diabetes and certain types of cancer and of course, a delay in the appearance of signs of age on our skin. Although this research is still incubating to make definitive conclusions, the very fact that oxygen therapy may have an impact on telomere length opens the way for larger studies. And that leaves us with high hopes.
