WHAT IS THE MICROBIOME?

As we well know, the skin is the largest organ in our body. And in it live millions of cells, hair follicles, glands and microorganisms that work together to maintain a healthy environment. It is an entire ecosystem that lives on the surface of your skin. And keeping that ecosystem in balance is the key to healthy skin.

I mean the microbiome.

The microbiome is a system that has evolved over thousands of years and the skin is not the same without it. The body consists of eleven organ systems. Each contains more specific organs made up of groups of tissues. They all work together to perform specific functions. It is estimated that there are more than 30 trillion cells in the human body and they all work in harmony. Your skin is home to billions of friendly microorganisms, which we call skin flora.

The functions of the microbiome are:

  • Leveling the pH of the skin.
  • Produce essential nutrients and lipids.
  • Maintains the protective bar of the skin.
  • Supports the immune system against pathogens.

This is what a healthy microbiome does. Otherwise, skin diseases can arise. Such as atopic dermatitis, acne, skin sensitivity, and eczema. These microorganisms also exist in our intestines and help to have a good digestion. In addition to stimulating the immune system, synthesize nutrients, amino acids, and break down toxins.

One tip to keep your microbiome healthy is to use products that are gentle on the skin. That they do not leave an abrasive and dry sensation. In addition to a balanced diet. Do not use fragrances or alcohol on your skin because they drastically alter the skin flora. They are not good at all.

Protect your microbiome with sunscreen and keep it hydrated. We must take care of this tiny ecosystem that lives on the surface of our skin. Although it sounds crude the fact that millions of microorganisms live on our face, the truth is that they are not harmful and provide us with great benefits.
